Two Harkonnen sisters battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and establish the legendary sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping dystopias, or making the world a better place, these women are the stuff of science fiction. This series uses material from Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s Great Schools of Dune trilogy. A prequel to the original Dune, it tells the story of how the Rossak Brotherhood evolved into the Bene Gesserit. The incident with Valya Harkonnen using the voice is from an incident called “Mentats of Dune.” The three books intertwine the development of the Brotherhood, the Mentats, the Navigators, and the Suk Doctors. Referenced in the crazy cartoon cast of AniMat: The New Normal (2020). This spin-off is more like Game of Thrones than Dune. That said, Dune: Prophecy is everything I hoped it would be and more. It’s a great spin-off of a beloved film franchise. I have to start by saying that I’ve never read the source material or seen the original film. My experience with Dune is based on the two Dune films that have come out in recent years starring Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Both of these films (particularly Dune: Part Two) are two of my favorite films that I’ve seen in recent years. I love them both, so I had high expectations for this series. Dune: Prophecy is a series that takes place 10,000 years before the Dune films begin and tells the story of how the Harkonnen sisters unleashed the Bene Gesserit to fight against the forces that threaten the future of humanity. The series may be more Game of Thrones than Dune, but either way… it’s a lot of fun. The most important thing about this series is that it does exactly what it sets out to do, which is to deepen our understanding of the Bene Gesserit. You don’t need to have seen both Dune movies to enjoy it, but you’ll certainly enjoy it even more if you have.
